ICPSR Access Help

• If you are a new user, please create an account with ICPSR.
   
• ICPSR provides three kinds of datasets:
   
  • Public-use datasets. They can be downloaded from anywhere.
  • Member-only datasets: ICPSR needs users to login once every six months or so from authorized IP address. Once user's MyData account has been validated, access isn't entirely based on IP address anymore. So far, in our university, only SSD (Social Sciences Division), the Academic Research Areas at NORC (National Opinion Research Center), SSA (School of Social Service Administration), GSB (Graduate School of Business) and Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies are within the authorized IP range. If you find the authorized IP range hasn't included your division/school and you need member-only data, please contact us at Sscs-data-archive@listhost.uchicago.edu.
  • Restricted datasets: only documentation files can be downloadable. Data files will be sent to users on CD-ROM by ICPSR. Moreover, restricted data investigator needs to sign a Restricted Data Use Agreement. All the Agreements should be endorsed by the University. Here are university's procedures in particular.

• If you want to access your ICPSR account from off campus, you have the following choices:
   
  • SSD administrated departmental servers: Athens, Corinth, Cronus, and Rhodes. Please check our account FAQ page if you need help.
  • Remote desktop. Please check help on how to set up remote desktop for Windows XP and Mac OS X.
  
   
• At last, but not least, it is important for you to be aware of ICPSR policies and read Responsible Use Statement before you download any dataset from the ICPSR.
