Social Sciences Computing Services is currently keyserving the Economics Department's license of Scientific Word 3.0. We had hoped to upgrade to Scientific Word 3.5 and still serve the licenses centrally, but the vendor was unable to fulfill a critical systems requirement.

Many people have their own copies of Scientific Word and will not be affected by this change. If you have been using the keyserved versions of Scientific Word in the past, or are looking to use it in the future, the following instructions will need to be followed:

Current keyserved users of Scientific Word 3.0:

1. Click on "Start" menu and select "Programs" -> "KeyServer Client" -> "KeyAccess"
2. Change the current value in the "Connection: TCP/IP (Windows Sockets)" box to:
   ssd-keyserver.uchicago.edu
3. Close the "KeyAccess Setup" Window by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner of the window.

For new or future users:

1. Download and install KeyAccess 5.0.7 from ssd-keyserver.uchicago.edu on your computer as follows:
   Download and save the "client.exe" file to your computer. You can do this using a web browser, WS-FTP, or FTP. If you use WS-FTP or FTP, make sure that you transfer the file in binary mode and not ASCII mode. To download through a browser click here ftp://ssd-keyserver.uchicago.edu/keyserverclient/, and choose "client.exe" Choose to save the program to disk, and place it on your desktop. Run the "client.exe" file to extract the installation files. A folder named "client" is created. Run the "setup.exe" file in the "client" folder to install KeyAccess. Delete the "client.exe" file. This file is not needed after KeyAccess has been installed. Delete the "client" folder. This folder is not needed after KeyAccess has been installed.
2. Download and install TCI Scientific Word 3.0 from ssd-keyserver.uchicago.edu on your computer as follows:
   Download and save the "sw30b1079.exe" file to your computer. You can do this using an application such as Netscape Navigator, WS-FTP, or FTP. If you use WS-FTP or FTP, make sure that you transfer the file in binary mode and not ASCII mode. To download through a browser click here ftp://ssd-keyserver.uchicago.edu/SciWord/, and choose "sw30b1079.exe" Please note that "sw30b1079.exe" is a 289 MB file. Therefore, do not attempt to download it using a slow speed network connection such as a modem. You will need approximately 100 MB freespace for a complete installation of Scientific Word and 700 MB temporary freespace on your hard drive. Run the "sw30b1079.exe" file to extract the installation files. A folder named "sw30b1079" is created. Run the "setup.exe" file in the "sw30b1079" folder to install Scientific Word. Use "1414907" for the serial number when prompted for it. Do not perform the online registration. The software has already been registered by the University. Delete the "sw30b1079.exe" file. This file is not needed after Scientific Word has been installed. Delete the "sw30b1079" folder. This folder is not needed after Scientific Word has been installed.
