SSH ClientsTo increase security and privacy for users on the campus networks the University of Chicago has adopted SSH as one means to login to public campus UNIX servers. SSH stands for Secure SHell. It comes in the form of a program that looks and acts like a normal telnet program (such as telnet on Windows, or Better Telnet on MacOS), but it is capable of encrypting all data that pass between it and the server. Whereas regular telnet passes your login and password in plain text and runs the risk of being intercepted, SSH uses encryption to prevent others from acquiring your password. To use SSH you will need to download the appropriate program. All these programs are free for non-commercial use. Choose the version for your operating system: |
