How do I access programs on the server?

The department servers used for running computational programs are.

  • athens.uchicago.edu
  • acropolis.uchicago.edu
  • cronus.uchicago.edu

You can access the server to run programs two ways:

  1. Running SSH – Secure Shell (SSH) is a protocol for sending and executing shell commands from your local computer to the server via the network.
  2. Running VNC – VNC will allow you to open a full Linux desktop session on the server to run graphical applications. You can disconnect and reconnect to a VNC session and use it on and off campus. VNC sessions require a client application and an SSH tunnel.
