How to Order STATA and Other Research-Related Apps

Starting in the 2024-25 fiscal year, faculty members and researchers can now directly purchase the software programs they need through the On the Hub web store at https://uchicagosoftwarelicensing.onthehub.com. Likewise, departmental administrators can now place orders for software programs on behalf of faculty members and researchers through this web store. It is no longer necessary to request that SSCS place orders on your behalf, which would only slow down the delivery of the software.

 

  1. Open your web browser to:
    https://uchicagosoftwarelicensing.onthehub.com/WebStore/ProductsByMajorVersionList.aspx
  2. Do an Okta/Duo sign-in with your CNetID and password.
  3. Click on the software package you want. In our example below we will choose STATA /SE.
  4. With some program, including STATA, you will need to select the specific version you want. In our example, we choose STATA version 18.
  5. From there, depending on the software program, you may need to select an edition. In our example, we select the /SE edition of STATA version 18. Scroll all the way down the page until you see STATA /SE. Click on it.
  6. Always select a quantity of 1, even if buying the software program for multiple users. Then click the Add to Cart button.
  7. Click on the icon of the cart in the upper right hand corner of the page.
  8. You can buy the software either for yourself or on behalf of another person. Choose the appropriate option. If, for example, you are a departmental administrator and you choose the option of ordering the software on behalf of another person, you must provide the other person’s UChicago email address in the field provided. If you are placing orders on behalf of more than one person, you should put all their email addresses in the field that asks for them, but you should leave the quantity of license as 1.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are ordering the software for another person, the other person must do a quick one-time sign-in to https://uchicagosoftwarelicensing.onthehub.com in order to create an onthehub.com account. The other person doesn’t need to do anything on the web site – just log in and log out. If the person doesn’t do this, you will not be able to order software on their behalf, as their email address will not be accepted in the field where you provide their email address.
    NOTE: Students are not eligible for On the Hub accounts, so you can’t choose the option of “I am placing this order on behalf of:” However, as a departmental administrator you can still order software for a student user. When placing an order for a student, you will choose the option of “I am placing this order for myself,” but on the next page you will put the student’s name and contact info into the order.
  9. Click on the Check Out button at the bottom of the web page.
  10. Confirm that you are buying the software package that you want and then click the Continue button. Note that if you have inadvertently selected the wrong software program, there are no refunds or returns.
  11. Fill out all the required fields. On this page you will provide the University account to be charged. Click the Continue button at the bottom of the page when done. This should complete your order.
